Zen Chic Chevrons

This one's for you Tamarack Shack! Finally had enough snow to try a snow pic. Not sure I care for it. This stuff was lovely and powdery and stuck all over the back of my quilt. Had to hang it up in the basement to dry it out after lol:)

Probably about a year ago now, I won a layer cake from Orchid Owl Quilt's blog. It was Sphere, by Zen Chic (Moda). I loved the grays and blues and wanted to make a quilt for myself. There was not enough to do a whole queen, so I decide to ombre the chevrons from lighter to darker down the length of the quilt.

Then, I went way out of my comfort zone and decided to ombre the thread on the white chevrons as well.

The white space was quilted like an extra layer of chevrons.

The colored chevrons were quilted in straight lines, but each row of white chevrons has a different motif.

See how the thread gets darker as the chevrons get darker? I even threw in a splash of yellow, supplemented with some extra yellow fabric. There weren't enough yellow squares in the cake.

Love how these feathers at the end turned out!

Even the back ombres! Can't wait to get this baby on my bed:)

  2. That is an great quilt with awesome quilting! LOL...taking pictures of quilts in the snow does have its down side....cold weather! Now I know you're a rookie when it comes to taking pictures of quilts in the snow so I'll share the first rule... avoid the wet, sticky snow!! Probably not possible where you live. :) I have the advantage of -20 to 30'c temps so the snow is very dry and really doesn't stick to the quilts, the snow just shakes off easily. But I'm so glad you gave it a try as your quilt does look so pretty in the snow! We are experiencing above freezing temps the last few days so lots of melting and wet snow here too but once the temperature drop again in a few days it will be so easy to get pictures in the snow as it will be frozen solid and easy to lay quilts on again.
Hope you made a snow man!!

  3. that looks great. What a creative way ti use the fabric. Must have been scary to quilt those dark thread feathers on white. Did you feel the fear and do it anyway?
